Tony’s experience in emergency management extends over 40 years. Service in the RAF was followed by 32 years in the British Transport Police, then roles as Head of Regional Resilience for South West England, and Head of UK Emergency Response for the British Red Cross. As a police superintendent he had command experience at many of the UK’s major train accidents including the Clapham and Paddington train crashes where site clearance and contamination issues were key priorities. In the 2004 Boscastle flooding he was the lead government representative for recovery arrangements, and during his Red Cross service played a strategic role in UK and international emergencies. Now working in the private sector, he is advising residents in North Kensington on matters linked with the Grenfell Tower Fire. He holds a law degree and a Master’s in civil emergency management and is a former Chair of the Emergency Planning Society.

Grenfell Tower Fire: Contamination and Community Confidence

The fatal fire in Grenfell Tower produced debris which contaminated the local area, including an adjacent academy. Residents in North Kensington continue to raise real concerns about the health and safety of their community and the impact of contaminants in and around the academy and homes. The seminar will consider what action has been taken and the range of issues that this incident raises, both locally and for future emergencies.
